Bilberry
The bilberry is a relative of the cranberry, huckleberry, and American blueberries. The bilberry looks very much like a blueberry, but its flesh is darker and its flavor is tarter. The depth of color of the bilberry’s flesh is caused by anthocyanosides – plant pigments that have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and protective effects on blood vessels. This anthocyanin content in bilberry provides nutritional support for various eye disorders; furthermore, human studies indicate that bilberry may improve vision. Bilberry has been used traditionally for natural support with various eye disorders, including eyestrain, night vision difficulty and nearsightedness.*
Lutein
Lutein is a type of carotenoid, a naturally-occurring pigment in fruit and vegetables. Lutein has antioxidant properties, eliminating harmful waste products called free radicals, and it may protect the retina from oxidative damage that could result from these free radicals. Lutein is found in the macular pigment and central part of the Retina which is responsible for detailed central vision.*
Zeaxanthin
Zeaxanthin promotes the development of a yellow-colored pigment shield that may provide protective support of the cells in the eye from the harmful effects of certain light sources.*
